The World War II generation has often been referred to as the "Greatest Generation" for their example of national unity, cooperation, service, and selflessness during an extremely challenging time in our nation's history. To honor this generation, Nature Trail Health Care Center, in partnership with SSM Health at Home, will celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the end of World War II with a ceremony to observe Spirit of '45 Day, a special day honoring those who served in World War II, both in uniform and on the home front.
The Spirit of '45 Day celebration will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10 am at Nature Trail Health Care Center, which is located at 1001 South 34th Street in Mt. Vernon. The event will feature a Color Guard presentation, a 21-gun salute, recognition of the World War II veterans who reside at Nature Trail Health Care Center, special guest speakers, and food. The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony.
"We are so pleased to be able to honor the legacy of the World War II generation with this celebration," said Chris Hayes, SSM Health at Home – Hospice Branch Manager. "It provides an opportunity for us to say "Thank you!" to those who served in uniform and to those who supported them on the home front, the men and women who were the "ordinary heroes" of the WWII generation. It is also a time to honor the memory of the more than 400,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice and never came home."
This is the fifth year for SSM Health to be involved in the celebration. Nature Trail Health Care Center is a Veteran Administration Certified Nursing Home. For more information regarding this event, please contact Nature Trail Health Care Center at 618-242-5700.
