Center for Comprehensive Cancer renamed as the Oza Cancer Center
Dr. Yagnesh Oza honored for more than 35 years of state-of-the-art, compassionate cancer care in the Mt. Vernon area
MT. VERNON, IL (May 11, 2016) – In a special dedication ceremony on April 22, the Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care unveiled a new name during a ceremony honoring its founder. The newly renamed Oza Cancer Center is a joint venture between Dr. Yagnesh Oza and SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital.
For more than a decade, oncology, hematology and radiation oncology services have been provided in a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility located on SSM Health Good Samaritan’s campus. The renaming of this facility honors the legacy that has been established by Dr. Yagnesh Oza, who has devoted 35 years of his oncology career practicing in Mt. Vernon and caring for the people of southern Illinois.
“This cancer center is a mark of Dr. Oza’s enduring legacy in Southern Illinois,” said Mike Warren, President of SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. Vernon. “His practice demonstrates his commitment to the wonderful people in our town. His reputation for providing quality and compassionate care is recognized by many in our community”
The Oza Cancer Center is a 13,150 square foot facility which was constructed in 2005. At the Center, patients are provided with a full range of services, including:
- Chemotherapy radiation, including IMRT
- Diagnostic, PET and CT imaging
- Laboratory services
- Lung cancer screenings
- Nutrition services
- Certified breast cancer program
“After receiving my unfortunate cancer diagnosis in September 2012, I immediately consulted with Dr. Oza,” said Dr. David Walters, a local OB/GYN physician who has been both a colleague and friend of Dr. Oza for the past 20 years. “I was glad that I did. I barely had the strength to travel the few miles to the Cancer Center, let alone to St. Louis. I also became rapidly aware that I was being treated in a very special manner by a wonderfully caring and nurturing staff.”
“This is, of course, a result of the individual personalities of the wonderful staff of the Cancer Center,” continues Dr. Walters. “But much credit goes to the vision of Dr. Oza whose commitment to optimizing patient outcomes in a nurturing environment has led to a culture of caring unequalled by any local institution.”
“My goal has always been to provide the best care to our community,” said Dr. Yagnesh Oza. “Patients are able to remain in their community to receive treatment rather than undergo travel to a large medical center, where they are likely to feel alienated and disconnected. At the Oza Cancer Center we are able to help them continue their personal and professional lives during treatment.”
