SSM Health is pleased to announce that Matthew Sojka, MD, will join the organization as Regional President of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Medical Group.
In this role, Sojka will be responsible for helping guide the strategic direction of outpatient services as well as population health initiatives in the region. He will partner with Philip Gustafson, regional president of hospital operations, to grow and manage physician practices as well as post-acute and ambulatory operations across Southern Illinois. In addition to this role, which is part-time, Sojka will also serve part-time as a practicing physician in the medical group.
“Dr. Sojka has a proven track record of not only recruiting great physicians but also leading many successful quality and process improvement initiatives for medical groups,” said Shane Peng, MD, president of physician and ambulatory operations for SSM Health. “And with nearly 25 years of executive leadership experience, we know he will be a valuable member of our team.”
Sojka comes to SSM Health from UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, Iowa, where he most recently served as regional vice president and chief medical office. Prior to that he held various clinical and leadership roles within the organization for more than two decades.
Sojka is board-certified in family practice and received his medical degree at the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He’s a member of the American College of Physician Executives and a diplomat in the American Academy of Family Practice.
Sojka’s first day with SSM Health will be July 6.
