Mt. Vernon, IL (October 14, 2015)  -  Fall is upon us and that means your allergies may be acting up due to ragweed, mold and it is harvest time. Changing humidity levels can be problematic too.  Your lungs require a great deal of moisture to keep their cleansing systems working, and to keep you free from infection.  For people suffering from chronic lung problems, the changing seasons and dry weather can cause serious and lengthy respiratory infections.

Breathing and lung issues are exactly the concerns Murali Kondapaneni, MD of SSM Health Medical Group, can help treat. Dr. Murali, as he prefers to be called, is a board certified physician specializing in Pulmonology and Critical Care in Mt. Vernon.

Dr. Murali has a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, and completed his residency at LSU Health Services Center. He entered Pulmonology and Critical Care because of his "passion to take care of people”.  He also enjoys the challenge he experiences in his field of medicine, “combining research with clinical aspects is so rewarding when you can help someone,” states Dr. Murali.

Interventional pulmonology is an emerging field that has dramatically changed the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, pulmonary nodules and pleural diseases. Some of the services provided by Dr. Murali are: lung cancer screenings, lung nodule clinic and diagnosis, advanced bronchoscopic procedures, and navigational bronchoscopy & EBUS.

“I am very excited to bring advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in Southern Illinois with Lung Cancer, COPD, Asthma and other lung problems. I thank SSM Health for providing me the opportunity to serve this community,” says Dr. Murali.

Along with his outpatient practice, he has joined the team of specialists who aid in treating patients in the Critical Care Unit at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon. These specialists manage life-threatening conditions requiring sophisticated organ support and invasive monitoring.

Don't let the changing weather of fall get you down, your health is too important, give Dr. Murali a call.  His SSM Health Medical Group outpatient office for pulmonology, services is located at 4106 South Water Tower Place in Mt Vernon.
