SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation "steps up to the plate" and donates an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to the Jefferson County Sports Association (JCSA) at Brennan Klein Field.
Wes Plummer, Director of the JCSA, tells SSM Health Good Samaritan Foundation's Board of Directors, "We are extremely thankful for this donation as it helps us meet the requirements of the State of Illinois. We hope it never has to be used, but we now can rest assured if it is needed we now have one." Plummer is responding to increased awareness of concussion signs and symptoms and the state's mandated concussions policies. "Thank you to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and their Board of Directors for this donation." The JCSA will install the AED, and make available to coaching staff at the Brennan Klein Complex; which is located south of SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital.
Brett Heinzman, Principal at Mt. Vernon St. Mary's School, also present at the presentation, added; "It is a great opportunity to partner with SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital and the Foundation. This community opportunity benefits several schools in the area not just St. Mary's." Heinzman also added, "We approached SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation with the regulation changes and are very appreciative of their generosity. Our student athletes are also appreciative, as well as many other area schools and athletic teams."
SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Administrative Director Shawna Bullard expressed her gratitude to the Board of Directors as well. "As a Foundation, we aim to support the health and wellness of our youth and community, alongside our hospital." Bullard stated. "The athletes playing on those fields are the children of our dedicated staff; they are the children of our community, and we care about their safety and health."
