Cardiac Rehabilitation

What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehabilitation (cardiac rehab) is a professionally supervised prevention and recovery program for those with heart disease. It is designed to help people recover from heart attacks, heart transplants, angina, heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures such as stenting or angioplasty. Cardiac rehab provides education and counseling services to help heart patients improve their physical fitness and health, plus reduce cardiac symptoms and the risk of future heart problems, including heart attack.

Why do I need Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Whether you are recovering from a cardiac event, experiencing breathing problems, or simply wish to improve your physical fitness, our program offers specialized rehabilitation programs for patients who have cardiac and pulmonary diseases. Cardiac Rehabilitation is recommended for individuals who:
  • Are at risk for developing coronary artery disease
  • Have angina pectoris
  • Are heart surgery patients
  • Are post-heart attack patients
  • Have chronic lung disease

About  Our Cardiac Rehab Services

  • A medical evaluation to determine your limitations and needs. The medical staff uses this information to design a specific rehab program for you and help you set goals.
  • A physical activity program tailored to your needs. The program often starts in a group setting where your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored during activity. As you progress, you learn how to check your vitals as you work up to using a treadmill, riding a stationary bike or taking steps.
  • Counseling and education to help you understand your condition and how to manage it. You may also work with a dietitian to create a healthy eating plan. Counseling may also help you quit smoking or cope with depression, anger and stress during your recovery.
  • Support and training to help you learn to manage your heart condition, and return to normal activities such as work.

How do I enroll?

A physician's consent is required for the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Our staff will work with you and your physician to determine the most appropriate plan for your individual needs. Based on your diagnosis, Medicare and most insurance plans cover cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.
